quick question about crank pulley

how come the back 2 channels on the crank pulleyare not part of the main pulley but are attached using the rubber insert instead, what purpose does this serve ,

its the harmonic balencer, stops the crank vibrating itself to bits.

I have a Roughtrax one, it is laminated.

1989 - onwards Diesel 2L/2LT &3L. A new Genuine Toyota front cast pulley from RoughTrax, as per the original fitment has a rubber lining inside the pulley. It is common for this rubber to de-bond causing the 2 pulleys to move back and forth and even wear through the covers or cause a squealing noise. The 2 front pulleys are steel and simply bolt to the front of the new cast pulley. Use woodruff key Si044A if required.

I rest my case.

I can't believe there is a crank pulley (harmonic balancer) for the Surf that is one piece and not have the rubber. The crank will destroy itself without it.
