ok if the 2 we're parked side by side and i had to pick one it would probably be the pajero (sorry), but i'm still a novice surfer so have'nt had the full experiance of it, given my choice of any 4x4 then i would have to buy a discoverywhen the sh*t hits the fan greet the reaper with a smile

Well I tried both the 2.5swb and the 2.8swb mitsi never found a decent lwb I could afford and I think the 2.5 was just SOOOO slow so the 2.8 was my car of choice, until I drove passed a guy in Chertsey who used to import surfs. I tried a 2nd gen 2.4 and it seemed on a par with the 2.8 mitsi both seemed to lose the back end on wet roundabouts and seemed to have a similar performance but the drive of the surf was so much better and of course it was bigger inside. then I stumbled across a 3rd gen 3.0 surf and I was literally blown away (but that one was mega overpriced)!!
I then searched for a bargain and hey I will never look a a mitsi again, tip have a LONG test drive in both and if you still want the mitsi then I would be shocked!!Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

The 2.8 Paj engine is meant to be decent but very thirsty. I did a lot of research on them when i considered buying one & the main complaint was the poor fuel economy; 20 to 25mpg.
They're prettier than surfs though.

although this will be a bit of a toy aswell, it will be used mainly for my building company as my van has blown the engine and looking at the towing weights the surf is coming in at 1500kg towing limit on a braked trailer where as the pajero is coming in at a towing limit of between 2500kg and 2800kg depending what site you look on, as for fuel ecomeny my trips are kept local plus my last car was only getiing 11 to the gallon (750 5.4 v12 bmw)
still undecided which to go for, was hoping to get one befor xmas but dont want to rush in and make the wrong choice

Just as a matter of interest - WHERE are you getting info on the Surf's towing limit ?
Nobody on here has ever been able to find a documented GVW or towing limit .....
PS
My wife was dead set on us having a Shitgun but having driven a couple myself I persuaded her to have a few test drives. As soon as she'd driven the Shitgun 200yards she said 'We're not having one of these !' which pleased me greatly ! Over a period of a couple of weeks we'd driven all the affordable 4x4's and the only ones that stood out were the Mitsi Challenger (Shitgun Sport) and the Surf - since we wanted it for towing we went for the Surf cos the Mitsi only had a 2.5l engine and we'd seen other people struggle to tow with it
Life is too important to take seriously !

think the towing weight was in a pdf file on roughtrax4x4 website, was towing weight for the 3.0td but remember reading it coulpe years back as well when i had my 2.4 surf as i was towing my boat every weekend,
ps i have driven the challenger and that does drive like a bag of bolts, but i do like the drive of the pajero,
pro's and con's for both the pajero and surf , but guess i will have to make the choice soon, could come down to fliping a coin to make the choice
