Thinking about buying a 2.4 TD Surf

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for all the advice and oppinions, Im kinda having doubts myself, I do trust this mechanic but its still my earnt money.

Im gonna go to see it on saturday and offer him £500 for it, if he takes it I will have a deal, otherwise I will be walking away no sweat.

No not yet, yesterday I got called into work so its all been a bit delayed really, but seeing the weather today in the southeast I think Id like to buy it!

Im gonna be goin there tomorrow morning to discuss and have a good price battle, i will update with pics If i get it.

Oil should be changed every 6000 miles

My £500 offer seemed good enough to kick me out of the garage...lol

But on a more thought about talk, the best I can get out of the guy is £700 plus a years MOT how does that sound to all you guys good enough to go for or shall I leave it?

did u find out about the head?

I have been told by the mechanic that he has replaced the head about 2 years ago, it was his regular customers car, he has told me it was replaced with a german made cylinder head which was brand new, as the car was pressurising and it turned out that the head on the car then was cracked, the turbo has been replaced to.

He can't provide any paperwork to prove any of this, but I trust him enough to believe him as i have brought cars off of him in the past quite a few times, the belts and stuff were all replaced at the time the cylinder head was replaced.

Thats all the information I can get, the rest is inspection and deciding weather its a deal or a walk away job.

Yes I started it from cold this morning, it has been sat there since friday it fired up straight away it was purring away quite nice and quiet, I left it started for a good 10 or so minutes, it was bit smokey on start up but I think thats cause it had not been started over the weekend but the smoke lessened as the engine started warming up.

He won't budge no more on the offer, thats the minimum I can get it for otherwise it will be advertised elsewhere.

So briefly its a 1993 Toyota Surf 2.4 TD, its got 114000kms on the clock front bull bars, twin batteries.

Its had new tyres all round, replaced cylinder head, turbo, the shocks have been replaced on the rear, it runs well, all electrics work.

Got tax until feb and mot will be for a year and the price is £700, its got no paperwork from the seller just the log book and mot, but its coming from a trusted source so I can rely on him that the above work has been done.

Give me your one word answers..........Buy or Walk away?

Ive brought it!.....

Its a completely new experience of driving but Im eager to learn and adapt!

Now I just need to give it a very good spring clean inside, tidy everything up so its nice and cosy inside and give it a good wash and polish before the cold really kicks in!

Im very glad with the purchase!.....I will post up some pics in a new post.

Great checklist Andy....Pity I didn't have it when I bought my black one!!!...Well i have it now and just looking at all the things I didn't check....yikes
