Well at €0.90 to €0.96 for dinodiesel here in Ireland (I know thats not as bad as the UK) I'm happy at 75% vegoil for €0.62 from Lidl or Tesco's The percentage savings are even greater for all those in the UK.

It wouldn't work anyway Marky! Unfortunately It appears that a large amount people in the uk are too apathetic about fuel costs!
A mate of mine in the USA couldn't believe what we put up with over here!
He reckons they would bring the country to standstill if that happened over there. Time will tell!

LONDON (Reuters) - The government has given no sign it will give in to demands to postpone a hike in fuel duty, despite the threat of protests by lorry drivers and farmers.

Transport Secretary Alistair Darling on Thursday blamed price rises at the petrol pumps on record international oil prices and cautioned against knee-jerk reactions.

"What you don’t do, when you’re setting tax policy, is allow yourself to be battered around from day to day," he told BBC radio.

"What the whole country wants is economic stability and that means you have to take decisions for the long term."

Road hauliers and farmers have set the Prime Minister a deadline of Friday evening to postpone plans to raise fuel duty by 1.92 pence from September 1 or face protests.

Government taxes already account for over 70 percent of the price of retail fuel in Britain.

Oil prices have been above $40 for most of the past three weeks, fuelled by worries about Middle East supply security.

Darling said Chancellor Gordon Brown had been trying to persuade oil-producing countries to increase production in order to take the pressure off fuel prices.

He noted that the planned duty rise to take account of inflation had already been postponed by six months.

Darling accused opposition Conservative Party leader Michael Howard of seeking short-term political gain in expressing sympathy with those planning protests.

In September 2000, Britain endured days of crippling blockades around fuel depots and refineries which ran the country’s fuel supplies virtually dry.

Chancellor Gordon Brown has hailed the decision by OPEC to raise oil production but said he would press for an even greater increase.

The 11-member Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries said on Thursday it would raise its crude output by two million barrels a day (bpd) from July 1 and add a further 500,000 bpd from August 1, bringing the cartel’s output ceiling to 26 million bpd.

Brown has been pressing OPEC leaders for the past two days to take steps to lower the prices of oil which have reached record highs in recent days and are threatening to derail global economic recovery.

Brown said OPEC’s decision was "welcome and essential for the much needed stability in the oil market that we have been seeking."

He said Britain would continue to be in contact with the oil cartel to get it to increase production.

"We will press OPEC both on meeting the production target and on the case for raising the target higher," Brown said in a statement.

Brown said he understood the concerns of motorists about the rise in petrol prices, but rejected a call for an immediate repeal of fuel tax hikes planned for September.

"After fast changing events -- which do nothing for stability -- I will reveal progress in August," he said.

"I’ve already postponed the inflation-only increase until September 1. And for September 1, I’ve announced our plan to get a special incentive with the introduction and use of sulphur-free fuel to reduce the environmental effect of the used fuel," he said.

Road hauliers and farmers have set Prime Minister Tony Blair a deadline of Friday evening to postpone plans to raise fuel duty by 1.92 pence from September 1 or face protests.

Government taxes already account for over 70 percent of the price of retail fuel in Britain.

Speaking later in London, Blair said any decision on fuel duty would be taken "not on the short term basis but on the basis of the long term interests of the country, the stability of its finances as well as obviously paying regard to the problems people have as motorists and as businesses."

"We don’t need to make a decision right now but we will take it later," he told a news conference after meeting Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

Referring to the OPEC announcement, Blair added: "We have simply got to see how that settles down."
