I don't think moderating helps.
This is a 'General' forum, any subject, if there are arguments, so be it.
And they should be forgotten in the morning.
Really, people need to realize that we all have different moods at any given time.
All forums have their ups and downs, some nights it's entertaining on here, some nights it's not.
I think banning people is the wrong way to go, that's my opinion.

How many regular posters are there? 40? It's not possible for 40 people to get on all the time, that woul be unrealistic. There will always be some that we find it impossible to get along with, that's what the ignore list is for.
What I can't understand is the folk who know they're on someones list but insist on goading them. Then there are the goader's lieutenant's who quote the goader to make sure the victim sees what's being said!
My thoughts are that this is a 'bad' patch, we'll get through it.
