I may very well be wrong cos it's a damned long time since I was involved in recovering vehicles and I've no idea what the current kit looks like BUT ...

it looks to me like the numpty in the Defender was using the kinetic technique with an ordinary strap which will be ineffective at best and 'kin dangerous at worst !!!
