    Hi folks.

I'm David, and I'm based in Galway in the west of Ireland.

I bought a P-plate 1996 KZN185 off ebay last November, which I picked up in Scotland. It's a 3.0TD automatic which began life as a 5 seater, but has become a van due to Irish running costs (€288 motor tax for commecial, instead of €1,200 motor tax for passenger). It only had 80k kilometers on it at the time.

Due to the fact that I bought it for working on rally stages, it has been fitted with lights, sirens, and radios (all discreet). I also put a proper towbar on it, as well as an A-bar and spots.

It may soon if I can find one, get a snorkel, as we're under water over here at the moment!

I've been meaning to sign up here for the last 12 months, but am only getting around to it now!

I'm also on www.bavarian-board.co.uk and www.bmw-driver.net, which are the BMW equivalent of this site. I have a 2001 525, which I've barely driven since I bought the Hilux!!!

    Regards.

    David.

        Hello & welcome.
Nice to see another irish member! I too have a 1996 3rd gen surf converted to meet commercial status (cheap tax, yeeehaa!)
This site is pretty much the best source of info on surfs you can get.
Gets some pics of your surf up!

There are 2 brothers around Kildare who are serious Surf fans (that's where I got my towbar). There's another guy near me building a serious off roader based on a Hilux pickup, but using parts off anything he can find! That's where I got my A-bar!!!

I see a lot of them around, with several kept on UK plates (illegal on this side of the water; we have Vehicle Registration Tax here which is up to 35% of the value of the vehicle. It's illegal for an Irish resident to drive a vehicle on non-Irish plates here; when we import, we have one working day to get the vehicle registered. If customs stop you on non-Irish plates, they can seize the vehicle).

There are several Surf owners (and fanbois!!!) on the motors section of www.boards.ie.

                  Welcome mate!

I am relatively new and clueless unless it involves a pen and calculator, but you will find everyone on here is only too pleased to help with any questions or problems etc.

                  (It is a nuthouse though!)
                  Cheers

Seen about 7 surfs in the last week mostly turd gens, i am still on yella reg's for 2 months now, vrt is €270 for my surf but not had a chance to take a day off to present it at VRT office

i am relying on the cops/customs to be on the look out for more valuable imports

                            Failte,
Good to see another Irish member on site. I was up around Galway a few weeks ago. Out in Connamara, Bailadangan to be precise. Live in the UK. You should find most answers to your surf problems here. I have found the help here invaluable. Yeah the tax system is a rip off. They think things are bad over here. You often here the phrase 'rip of Britain' God its worse over there. Dreading the budget coming up. Still, take pleasure in your Surf, very few left. (Pleasures that is)

                              Thanks for the warm welcomes!

Murph; you might have seen a couple of 130s out in Connamara with lift kits and monster wheels; there are a few really far back in the wilds of Carna (pretty much Worlds End; it's Atlantic between there and the US of A!!!).

                              Bio; Rocky Horror fan? Excellent!

I get the impression that this place is like the BMW sites; always willing to give the best advice and recommendations, and not slow to partake in witty banter! Just what I was hoping for.
