    Hey Andy

Someone is selling a 1000 channel Radioshack PRO-97 for £110 posted. I'm just sticking with what I have for now obviously as I've just bought, it but thought I would let you know in case its of any interest for you? No idea if its any good or whether the price is cheap/dear.

Been listening to all manner of nonsense on a 15 minute walk up the road tonight

I just bought a Uniden UBC3300XLT for £45. Needs a new battery pack because this one doesn't hold charge, but I can make one up for a tenner, so not bad for £200 worth of radio

1000 channels, trunking, various types of digital demodulation via interchangeable decoder cards.

Therefore, unlikely the missus would swallow me buying more! BPS money for christmas anyway.

How're you getting on with yours Paul? I've been trying unsuccessfully to program local trunked systems into my base scanner. Cant figure Uniden's instructions out.

Only played a couple of times due to lack of time but had a bit of snoopy fun. Now need to read the intructions and work out how to use it properly and programme it.
Once you find something it is oddly fascinating though.

If you want to find the nearest strongest signal (say if you had a cab company next door and specificaly wanted to search for their signal rather than randomly searching for whatever comes up (and if you dont have the big yellow book to hand) , is it a case of turning the squelch up fairly high and searching through the different band blocks until you get a strong signal or doesnt it work that way?

It works kind of like that yes, but you'll probably find that the squelch doesn't have enough authority - if your radio has an attenuator, you might be able to use that.

Something you might feel like having a play with is this. You just need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack plug lead, and a PC, and there are various things out there such as ACARS and that weird shit you can hear at 153.025MHz
