  • Hello, newbie questions.

    Hello i am new here,

Can you all tell me what gen my surf is, is it 2nd or third.....it is a 92 modle it as sss-r at the rear written, the condensor is at the bottom of the radiator.

I bought it from some one it has an 5l toyota diesel engine.
Today i heard that loud noise when turning full, it had me thinking cv joints until i read the post, that was a big help, i did not put the greas on yet but i hope it is the stoppers.

Also hom much oil does the transmission takes and what type. Also for the front and rear diff.
    Thanks alot........

Hi and welcome, yours is a second gen, if you go to the technical part the forum, you should find all the answers to your gearbox questions, never refilled a gearbox on the surf myself, but the info is all there.

Guys when i turn all the way to the left or right, it makes a sound as if some metal is grinding really loud, i grease the four stops but it stills sounds the same. It started when i reversed, when i turn the steering gets stiff and the van feels like if it is forcing to go, then is spins out it a force. It feels strange what could this be, cv joints? It is strange the both side is making the noise at the same time........please advice me.

It was hardly suggested just to kill a few minutes.

The 4WD indicator on the dash is usually the give-away.

                    Which 'selector'?

Make sure the small gear lever is pushed fully forward and that the button on the side of the knob isn't depressed.

If i push it all the way forward it goes to h4...and all the way down is is Just H, So which do i put it in?

I had it on h with the switch at the side press.

Apologies. My mistake. At the rearmost position to select H, as you have it, without the button depressed.

You could have done, but unless it locks up or something goes bang, not much use worrying about it.
