If you fit the the ring and pinions from a 2.4 into the 3ltr you will get some of the gearing back.

However, how will you manage to climb into a Surf lifted high enough for 35s?

If the devil had a car it would be Lucifer if the Devil had a boat it would be a Phantom. Thats my theorie anyway (sorry to all the spelling police if thats wrong). Its really sad that I stopped coming here because this place became a playground. I really enjoyed it here. I'll lurk now and again and if it becomes how it used to be maybe I'll come back. Waits for reasurance.

Would it be easier to just swap the rear axel over complete with rear diff to get some of the gearing back or are you on about g/box gearing

Can it not even be a straight diff swap??

I have a caravan step at the ready. That or i get a standard 3rd gen in baby blue and deny my batty boy tendancies.

Some interesting reading, hmmmmmm. So 35's would be terrible!

35s would be no worse than 33s {maybe even a little better} if you did the diff swaps.

                              A Standard 3.0ltr is a G294 open diff or a G295 lsd diff.
                              A Standard 2.4ltr is a G144 open diff or a G145 lds diff

What your interested in is that the G294 or G295 is a 4.100
                              Where as a G144 or G145 is a 4.875.

This a fairly significant drop in gearing and would allow you to run 35s without the £500 cost of the popular 5.100 ring and pinion kit for the Surf.

Done the whole lifted 2nd gen thing already.
