Pretty much all hire cars I've had in the states have had this feature. As others have said, it makes more sense to have them lock BELOW a certain speed rather than above!

Dont understand why anyone would want to do it TBH

                As G man said
I believe its a inbuilt feature of the alarm/immobiliser rather than the Surf itself
mine does it once you select a drive gear and unlocks them in Park

The cheapest and easiest option is to use the door lock button on the driver's door, you can lock and unlock all the doors from 0 mph all the way up to light speed.

The idea is that the doors lock as soon as you go over say 5mph and remain locked until you open them. I wouldn't expect them to open when going below that speed but rather remain locked.

The locking when selecting drive sounds like another option. Anyone with this option know what alarm/immobiliser they have?

My celica's got anti hijack and its a blinkin pain in the arse.
Got a call one afternnon to say the missus was locked out the car but the engine was running parked in morrisons carpark.
Turns out she was still on the drive at home going to morrisons but i still had to drive all the way home to get in the house to get the spare to unlock it.
She had unlocked the car got in and fired it up but closed the door when doing so, this enables the anti hijack timer giuving you 20 odd seconds before it locks everthing.
Then she jumps out to scrape the ice off the windscreen and closes the door behind her and the hijack timer cuts in and locks her out, heater on full, engine running and house key on same keyring......i did laugh just a little bit......
