  • Hilux surf camper?

Here's my latest pipe-dream idea. Was thinking about trying to convert my surf into a weekend camper.
Bed shelf with built in drawers on one side & gas-hob/sink/mini-fridge combination cabinet on the other side.
Im considering getting a caravan next year but caravans are needy things that need storage & looking after so im not sure what to do.
A campervan is out of the question as well coz i'd miss me surf too much.
Anybody on here ever attempted anything like this?

Why not just use one of the vehicle awning type tents, as a sort of inbetween compromise?

Matt i did consider what your talking about, the tents that fit on to the back of the surf. Nearly got one this summer, but i really dont want the hassle of assembling tents...yup im a lazy git!
I got so sick of putting up & taking down tents over & over again this summer. Ive realised how much i enjoy the outdoor life so ive got to sort something out for next summer.

Might be worthwhile having a peek around Bundubasher's site. He's probably found a few methods on his travels.

Let me know if you intend on attempting a build, would be nice to know someone else was heading into the unknown.

Get a pop up tent. Takes literally 3 seconds to get up and about 30 to get down.
Can get a 3 man for about £50 and a 'moon base' style one with two 2/3 man compartments and a centre section for £150.
Pop up Gazebo for £50-80 to link between the surf and the tent and you have a big modular almost instant space for reasonable money.
Its what I did this summer and works well enough.

I put a series of drawers on either side of the rear of the truck. I cut away the plastic trim so I could fit them as tight as possible to the bodywork. Made a little cubbyhole for a mini-fridge too. Got a leisure battery powering the fridge, interior light and some 12 volt sockets. Got enough room with the seats down to lay out sleep. Will post some pics if you want, probably not tonight as it's too chilly to go outside now
Hold my beer and watch this
