The reason the U.S and Oz forums are generally different is because they practically insist on participants being either:

    1) In need of help.

    2) Willing and able to offer help.

You'll note most of the forums are just as pedantic, (no matter which country they are based in), with regards to people using the search facility.

The problem on here is that we seem to have some members who find it perfectly normal to try and #### people off forever and a day, but who never actually contribute anything useful in any of the tech sections, or to tech questions in general.

That is the difference. Nothing more. Go to any of the U.S or Oz forums and act like a troll and the vitriol we may pour on those members here pales in comparison to how the other forums would treat those members.

New members tend to get caught in the middle on occasion, granted, but that's usually when the ones with verbal shits decide to jump in and contribute a big bag of feck all once more, peeing everyone off in the process.

People can complain about the grumpy and jaded buggers on here forever and a day, but if they did leave the forum, as the whingers frequently suggest, approx. 75% of the tech knowledge would disappear along with them.

Seriously though, I remember when I bought my Hilux and joined the forum, nearly 2 years back now. The only forum experience I had was with a few of the Land Rover ones. So so negative in general and especially when they found out that I was buying a Jap truck (slitty) can’t you enjoy more than one 4x4! Anyway, when I first joined this forum I thought, this is a good bunch of people. It was a refreshing change from the fighting and self righteous ego’s I was used to. I do spend most of my time now on the US or Australian hilux forums, much more balanced and friendly, sorry! And people actually reply to my posts which is good!

I’d rather muddle through with a problem I might have with my Surf than post a question looking for help on this forum now; I do use the search I should say!

It must feel a little Masonic on here for new members. It’s like trial by fire and bullsh8t for newbie on here.

If I only have 3 quid in my pocket then it's not a lot.

On the other hand if I get sex 3 times in one night I consider that a lot.

I do exist in real life, those on here who've met me will confirm that. There's no need for name calling.

He's more than capable of speaking for himself. However, he is also a friend of mine, you insulted him, so I'm sticking up for him. Do you never stick up for your mates?

I can only think of 3. Not my idea of a lot.

Why is it, rather than just say, ok no probs, see you when you come back on, people start name calling and getting annoyed at each other. Pick up your rattles, stick em back in the pram and get on with something else.

I don't know what your problem is Albanach, you seem to be afraid of Newbies, are we not allowed to have an opinion until we have 12,000 posts?

Perhaps you're the common denominator? I don't recall anyone leaving because of the sniping before you joined?

There was no need for that. I reckon there'll be more people saddened about Jim's leaving than will be happy you're still around.

I think it's worrying that people like Jim and Graham are taking time out because of the attitude of some of the newbies.

That spoils the chance of p1ss takes and hijacks
