Essentially the reason I am going for a surf is because I will be working in the alps for 5 months and want a rock solid motor.

        Thanks again!

Not that theres anything wrong with 2.4s, theres loads of nice ones owned by members here, I even owned one myself. Its just that they are more prone to head issues.
I never had any issues , but why risk it.
I'm not sure thats the case! Sooo many 3.0ltrs are going pop at the moment as they come of age..

I'd gladly take either a 2.4L or 3.0L .. but i'd probably take a preferance for proof of head work.

Unless it was black.. then i'd just get on an buy it!

That's extremely good advice from Wodewick. Far better to follow his advice than just go straight for a 3.0L regardless.

I personally wouldn't use that oil filter on mine though. Stick with a known good quality filter, namely the OEM filter. Mann or Mahle would be the alternative options, filter wise, in my book.

if you are interested its a 2.4 auto in green with off road tyres

runs like a dream but will need some TLC and some bugger nicked the cd auto changer unit.

i can post a photo if ya want
Thanks for the offer, but I will be filling it full of stuff I will be taking from the UK to France, like snowboards, tv, hifi etc.

A surf with a new head fitted would be perfect really, but there aren't many about. I will be taking a mechanic with me when I go to buy one as I'm not that mechanically minded.
I think I know what questions to ask about the common faults. Like when were the belts last changed, when was the coolant last flushed, have you had any parts replaced like the rear window motor, rear springs as I've read these start to sag after a while. If it has had any other major work done to it so I know what to expect to replace at a later date. I think I've got all my bases covered but if anybody knows of anything else I could ask that would be great.

tbh i havent even thought bout it,it's only cause i still have the nagging feeling to buy a twin cab, mine just had oem head, gaskets, water pump, rad, stat, cap, fresh oil, filter, coolant, atf,it has +2 rear springs, plus all the bling bits, and the bonnet i spent 60 hours airbrushing, has pa system, sond head unit, subs etc etc ,its like an endless list,if were to sell it,id take no less than 3k for it,baring in mind i just spent 1200 in parts alone lol, dont think u wud wanna pay that tho lol,and tbh i can understand lol

                                BDT...

WTF man.. You've been ranting an raving about how that surf was worth fixing.. an such on an such on.. an now you're going to try an flog it?!

An lets be honest mate.. Overpriced doesn't even come close to what you want for it!! Besides the bonnet an sound system theres about £300 worth of mods an even then the sound system doesn't add value.. an the bonnet as great as it is.. an as much skill it displays adds a grand total of f**k all...

You're a wheeler dealer! You know its pointless offering yours up for sale!

Albannach just paid £100 more than your head cost to get a complete surf in great condition from what i can tell.. an if the hard a$$ scot is anything like he seems he is.. he'll have a decent truck!!
