Diesel Leak!

How worried should I be about fuel leaking from the pump area? Thought she was juicy! Can anyone advize bout cost etc.

1 How long have you had it?
2 Have you (or the previous owner ) been using lots of Veg oil??
If the answer to 2 is yes, then you may just need to run dino thru for a while as many seem to re-seal themselves in these circumstances

Only a few weeks, not sure about veg oil but can find out, the leak is pretty bad, that said, some times worse than others. If veg used does Dino clean the lines?

No need to be a drama queen. A brand spanking new replacement pump is only around £300 quid, so not exactly the end of the world.

As far as I can tell, and knowing abit about mech fault finding such as this, It seems to be between pump n block, the injectors look wetish/oily anyway but the amount of fuel below the pump has pretty much cleaned the engine and doesnt relate to the mild dampness around the injectors. From the pump down you can see fuel flowing out but cant get a good enuf veiw as it seems to be obscured by the pump. I look this and all I can see is that I would have to drain the cooling system remove that stuff, remove a few wires and fuel line stuff just to be able to get a better view and possibly locate the leak. I use her every day and wrk is very busy plus im a lazy sod with no manual. tools, wrkshop, money etc! Think I could be going over the top abit coz of surcumstances at the mo, would be such a shame to see it go! I luv the beast

The common point at which they tend to leak is from the seal on the top cover. That can be replaced with the pump insitu and for little cost, (although it is a phaffy job, by all accounts). There is info on here regarding the procedure. I would suggest you try that repair route first. Milners and Roughtrax both stock the seal kits, I believe.

No worries mate. It's just better to approach the job with a calm head. Most repairs are fairly minor when viewed in the light of day, so to speak. Panic only when it goes boom, and not before.

Just on a side note about these repair kits.I believe from reading previous threads/post that there may be one O ring that is not in the kits so you will need to go to Halfords or somewhere to but the O ring but you will need to buy a multi pack with different sizes tho to make sure you get the right size.

Shes still in the shop!!!! Aparently there are 3 leaks from the pump, its being removed and sent to an engineer for repair!?!?!? Its all quite kryptic! Will let you know the whys n wherefores of this when I know. This guy came recommended as he specializes in these motors. POP QUIZ! Can anyone think of a reason for this course of action?

Be carefull of those "fuel systems specialists" one quoted me 2 grand + for a fuel pump recon, i'd have tried shoveing several lt's of transmission fluid in the tank as a first step, mine started leaking when i over did the veg /derv mix, dropped the veg a bit and it cleared up, ATF's a good cleaner btw,
also some (newer) pump seals are of a different material and resistant (cant think of the name ot the stuff tho) you like me prob have the old seals

The motors been in the shop for about 2 weeks now. Spoke to the mechanic a couple days ago. The pump wasleaking in 3 places, he sent it off to have the seals replaced. This cost £250............!Which I thought was great after reading the warnings n horror stories.Altho this was mostly due to him being a mate of my uncle I feel. After fitting, he found other leaks which I dont have the details of yet. His labour was 4hrs bringing the bill to £450. He called me and said h wasnt happy with the way it started/ran and said he was gonna take it to a diesel specialist. Im waiting for the verdict now.All this said, he did say she was a good motor as he has wrked on her over the last year as she was my uncles. Will let you know the outcome,contacts etc very soon as hes somewot of a wizard with surfs, and I actually feel confident in him which through experiance is rare for me. Oh yeah to the best of my uncles, the mechanics n my knowledge she has never run on veg oil or mix!
