Hello all, we've just bought a 1992 Surf ssrx with the baby diesel engine(have our fingers crossed). I read about the problems here before we bought her but was in such nice condition we got her anyway

Also, where are you from? Would you be interested in getting her muddy? Some of us like to go out now and then to pre-arranged specific off road events, and also to publicly open byways. It's a lot of fun.

If you are looking for improvements for the 2.4TD, there is a way to increase the turbo boost up to 10psi from 7psi. There definitely is a noticeable difference in the slightly underpowered 2.4.
Another good modification is to adjust the fuel pump to lean out the diesel / air mixture. The australians found this one. The outcome is little more power and less diesel smoke. So, two benefits
Obviously don't do any of the above if you aren't interested and not before you have done the research.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Actually the Surf is owned by my Dad but We'll both be using her for work(building trade), but he doesn't do IT and also I'm responsible for making sure it gets all those little tweaks to improve things. So far this has been sticking a sweatband on the 4WD stick to stop the switch rattling.
