  • Leaking Rad

Well chaps spent all day changing my coolant & guess what? Yup my stinking rad is leaking.
Spent 42 euros (£36) on fancy toyota coolant & its dripping out of the bottom of my rad. On futher inspection its coming from an area around the top left hand corner of the rad bars. Checked all hoses & plugs, nothing to report.
    Im very dissappointed lads.

Is Holts radweld any good? Cant afford a new rad at the moment.

Either get it fixed by a rad specialist or get a toyota (or) roughtrax one ..........end of the day if it fails you could be doing a head replacement

I did a search for leaking coolant & some guy said he used radweld on his 2.4td & it worked fine?
But obviously if a few of you are saying otherwise i wont bother.
There is a local rad repairer near me so i'l call into him tomorrow but if he starts talking silly money then i'l just get a new rad. Milners is selling em for £145.

The Milners one doesn't get as good pres as the Roughtrax one.

Who said Radweld was OK? SOmeone on here? Did you check his more recent posts?

i've never heard of anyone having a good outcome with any radweld.

the expensive coolant needn't be a waste of money. drain it off and refill when you get the rad done. but why an expensive coolant anyway?
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

I have a non-original rad sitting in the path that weeps very slightly from the top tank. If you can solder, you could sort it out. I didn't bother cos I got an original Toyota one as a replacement.

If you want it, it'll just cost you postage.

I'm sure this is a v.temporary solution - but they dont call me Mr. Bodge-it for nothing. (in fact they dont call me that)(but probably soon will) Cheap experiment though!

This guy says its a temporary solution. Why is radweld a bad idea?

It's designed to block holes. It could theoretically also block holes you dont want blocked, or at least decrease flow.

And once it's in, it's in. You can't take it out.

Apache thanks for the offer but i cant weld or solder for sh*t mate.
I can service a car & install a stereo or speakers, anthing more complicated than that & smoke starts to come out of my ears.
