wanted something big enough to get 2 rotties in the back, also wanted to use it for when i'm fishing, camping or taking the kids out, bought a discovery off someone and the rear floor had more rust than a 20yr old ford, sold it at a profit and got offered the surf for £400 with a knackered water pump, sorted that out and not looked back since

Was it just the waterpump that was knacked then? Nothing else? You dropped on nicely if so.

yep, used a mates chemical test to check the coolant before i bought it, replaced the bottom pulley aswell as that was debonding but thats it!
had to replace the steering idler bushes and an arb bracket for the mot but they cost me £12 so i can't complain

So general consensus seems to be bought for practical reasons or other and liked them so much that some of you are on your third surf, looks like I could have these for some time to come by the sounds of things.

I got mine for offroading, then bought another one, then sold the original, and my wife has one too - which she loves! Hers is her daily drive, has dog cages built into the back and we tow the caravan with it - mines just for playing in the mud!

                  Hi Mudsurfer & all,

I didn't pick my Surf, 'Surfin Sue' picked me!

Wandering around with my wife, looking for a vehicle to buy when, I just suddenly stopped dead in my tracks!
After gazing at 'her' for what seemed like forever, I turned to my wife & said, pointing at this thing of beauty: "She wants me to take her home".

                  So I did!

Is that sad or what? But I don't care. Surfin Sue is mine & she ain't going nowhere!

Nope, not sad at all mate.

Mudsurfer. Good pic that, can't wait to get the surf dirty.

had Jeep on LPG for 6 years ok but expensive main dealer hits and eventually core plugs started going (poor prev maint no doubt). Got rid and made the mistake of getting an Explorer. Was looking at Shogun as guy down pub raved about them and completly dissed the Surfs saying they were thirsty, uncomfortable bla bla which was the main reason for not considering at the time.

mental note - never listen to blokes down the pub talking b*ll*cks

any road up, indirectly his fault I ended up with Explorer, mistake soon realised and whilst playing golf a mate said a guy near us was selling a 4 runner, he and his wife have an hairdressers in the village so effectively it is a "HAIR DRESSERS CAR". Had on tootle round the block and thought wow this drives great, full main dealer service, non operational back window and sunroof.

mental note - listen to nice guys on golf courses!

forced the guy to take a deposit, he was waiting for a Warrior to be delivered, took a hit on the explorer and 3 weeks later yippee.

still see the previous owner and every time they say they wished they hadn't sold it and that the new truck has not lived up to expectations!!

I believe everything happens for a reason and eventually the truck found me...

Same reason as you ?? Because he has a Surf ?

He was looking for a jeep and ended up with a Surf.
You were looking for a Defender and ended up with a Surf.
Fate has brought you both to Surdom and thrown you together on a Surf forum.

I had owned Land Rovers and became fed up of constantly having to repair them.....
I’d driven Hiluxes and LandCriusers around West Africa and really liked them.
Needed a new truck to cart firearms/shotguns around so had a look on Autotrader. There was a Surf at a garage 2 miles from home so I called in “just to have a look” 30 mins later it was mine! Little did I know at the time that the V6 Petrols were so rare and thirsty... but at least they are the most powerful of the 2nd gen Surfs so the extra power and quiet petrol engine made up for the low mpg.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL
