New Surf owner needs wisdom!

First time I've heard of a choke on a diesel Surf TBH!

Possibly a rotary idle up knob as fitted to the 2.4 pickups ?

I dont know to be honest, still waitin for the log book. So busy with wrk at the moment havnt had time to explore yet. The knob which is located to the right and below the steering wheel has the choke sign on it. When turned clockwise idle revs increase, so I keep it the opposite idling slow. Im guessing something to do with high altatude air/fuel mix or high idle revs when off roading.

Yup, what you are describing is a mechanical idle up knob. You are doing right by keeping it to the low speed setting for normal driving.
