  • help needed pls

I have posted before about this problem and have searched the forum and still have no definite answer!! O.K steering wobbles 50 to 70 mph, wheels have been balanced,Prop shafts are not loose when shaken by hand and wheels are solid when rocked when jacked up!!At 75-80mph it feels like I'm driving across cobble stone street and the surf is in auto destruct mode and it is doing my nut in!!Any suggestions?thanks in advance

Are they the original jap tyres or ones you've had put on yourself? It could be anything from a shagged UJ to the prop being unbalanced. Unless you've dropped the prop for any reason though, UJ's or tyres are your best bets.

                  Hi nooby!!!

My best bet is a out of round tyre on the front.

                  Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

Thanks folks but the tyres are new(1000) miles general grabber and where balanced at fitting and I went back and got them to check again so its not that. There has been no work other than a service done so does that only leave the UJs or are we talking track rods or other steering components??

if it's not the wheels and tyres ........ after swapping back to front and you have checked the prop uj's the next thing i would look at is the front discs have not warped

                        2.Wheel bearings
                        3.Steering idler bushes
4.arb support arms one snapped maybe
                        5.Tyres {but this should have showed on tyre balance machine}

Tyres wil only show up longditudional faults on a balancer. Lateral faults may not show up, but will cause wobble. If a front tyre is out of true, the front of the truck may wobble at very low speeds too.

                            Hi guys,

I doubt the discs, as it would only happen when under braking,
but, any amount of play in the steering joints may contribute
to the "shake" at the wheel, 1/2mm here & 1/2mm there can add
up to quite a lot of play. Have you tried the steering colum for play?
(lotsa joints in the surf steering system)

                            Hope this helps.
