  • Linda desperately seeking a man – or woman!

Driver wanted for Landy Rally 2009 this September!

One half of a team that entered Landy Rally last year now suddenly finds herself without a husband and therefore a Discovery! Life can be so cruel, losing a Discovery like that!!! Yet fair play to her, she still wants to compete in Landy Rally 2009.

This being the case, Linda is seeking some kind soul with a 4x4 who at the eleventh hour would like to enter Landy Rally European 4x4 Charity Drive 2009 – 19th to 27th September 2009. A non-speed event (more of a glorified treasure hunt actually) the route is Calais to Calais, taking in 11 central European countries in 9 days. The vehicle can be bog standard, reliability not speed or modification being the most important factor.

She's willing of course to pay half the costs, plus, at the risk of embarrassing her, she must be a pretty good co-driver as their team finished 3rd overall in LR`08. In fact, they were only a whisker away from the runners-up spot … say no more!

This incidentally is the 3rd year in succession a driver or co-driver has been sought for Landy Rally just before the off (crews are always changing as people’s lives and circumstances change), so it would be nice to make it three in a row as forum requests proved fruitful both in `07 and `08. Fingers crossed!

Anyone interested? If so email myself Tom McGuigan (organiser, chief cook and bottle-washer) via the event website at www.landyrally.com and I‘ll pass on your interest.

I suppose it's a long shot to ask here. But ask yourself this, if you asked for someone on a LR forum to enter a Surf Rally, what reaction would you get?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Ah, you’ve missed the vital point gents. Obviously none of you looked at the event website at www.landyrally.com If you had and scrolled down on the home page you would have read ...

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Under the overall banner of Landy Rally, 2009 will see the introduction of the Landy(ish) Rally.

Featuring all makes of 4x4 SUV vehicle whether European, Jap or Jeep, entrants in the Landy(ish) Rally will in essence be competing for exactly the same trophies/prize money as their Land Rover counterparts, whilst following an identical Road Book and identical itinerary. Basically if your 4x4 SUV vehicle is anything other than of Land Rover origin, then via the Landy(ish) Rally it will be eligible in its own right.

Also, I did say in my original post “Linda is seeking some kind soul with a 4x4” … not an oil-dripping Land Rover! See, no excuses not to go now!

Together with the road run itself, the Landy Rally itinerary includes ... a flag off in Calais, a road run through Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, France, the Black Forest in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, tackling the 48 hairpin bends of the Stelvio Pass in Italy - voted "Best Driving Road in the World" by BBC2's Top Gear motoring programme - gentle off-road driving on normally closed pistes at Val d'Isére 2,500m up in the French Alps (at 200 hectares, it is both the biggest and highest off-road site in Europe), visiting the tax-free haven of Andorra (e.g. 1 litre of vodka @ £1.80), a fair amount of remote tracks to tackle in the Spanish and French Pyrénées (the equivalent of our greenlaning) and a prestigious prize-giving dinner to look forward to back at Calais. Plus, a host of novel daily tasks to be completed en route in order to gain points for the competitive side of the event

so you need a passport to go to
and spend weeks driving around the eu

dont think the wife would like it tho

this must be a hoax as no land rover could possibly be reliable enough to complete that rally

                              True,

                              But you forgot something !!

They start with 5 trucks, by the time they finish they have enough parts left to keep 1 going to the end
