    ok so i decided to do an oil change on my 3.0 and to jump start the 2.4 as its been sitting long enough that both batteries are flat as a pancake!

    im proud of the oil change, my first one without using a garage for their bits n pieces. i got an old veg oil can and cut it in half lengthways to catch the oil, i bought a 14mm ring spanner to complete the job and i made a funnel for the old oil out of a evian bottle! i put enough news paper down that i didnt get any in the car park that is for our row of houses.
    very pleased.

    next job was to start "ye olde beast" up using some jump leads..
    i borrowed some and i think the wires on them were just too thin! every time i went to crank it over it just clicked.

    so next idea was to nick one of the batteries from my 3.0 and install into the 2.4 to jump it directly and then remove the battery and re-fit the old one.

    so i remove the battery from my 3.0 and swap it over. but i cant get any ignition lights up. after scratching my head for 5 mins i made sure the contacts had been made which looked fine.
    so i think i either have broken wiring in the car for that side's battery or the battery is broke.

    to test, (since i was certain it was the battery at fault even though i had been driving on it) i got the jump leads and very quickly striked the two terminals together to see if it sparked... this was FLAT. i mean seriously flat. i could leave the two terminals connected without the wire even getting warm, and there was no sparks!

    im not sure how this happened, since the two batteries in my 3.0 have been powering my car,
    i thought if one began to die then both would die?

    anyhow, in the end, i swapped the working battery into the 2.4 and she immediately started first time.
    once running i could remove the battery and re-fit the old one.

    after being run for about 10 - 15 mins, there was not enough charge to power any lights but the volt meter showed some voltage. so to drive around i have fitted one of the dead "but will charge" batteries to my 3.0 so eventually i should have 2 okay batteries in there until i get some funds to buy 1 or 2 new batteries!

    is this normal though?
    there is definately a positive and a negative connection to the battery that died because upon re-fitting i accidentally earthed the spanner on something and made a spark. the earth to the body looks as new, and also the other wires look fine so i am very sure that the battery isnt dead because it became isolated from the circuit.

    The spark came from the good battery, not the duff one.

      yes you are correct. this proved that the wiring in the system was faultless.

      meaning, that the battery shouldnt have been dead.. well, not dead because it had became isolated from the system.

      may be im not making sense. sorry. not eaten yet.

            i bought a green sports air filter as i wanted to keep the original airbox setup. fuel filter was done a few months ago so no need just yet

            the previous owner of my 2.4 fitted a k&n style cone filter to it. he had done it nicely with induction piping etc..
            when i got the truck home me and my friends whipped all that out and stuck the cone directly onto the turbo for some laughs. now, when you are accellerating and let off the throttle it goes TISHHHHHSH like one of those boy racer subaru thingies.
            we were stuck trying to get up a sopping wet grassy hill, and the sound of the air being dumped somewhere was quality.

              first port of call would be go to the dead battery in the 3.0,get multimeter out and see wot yr getting on the terminals while its running
