  • 2nd gen internal roll cage

has anyone installed or seen an internal roll cage for a 2nd gen surf? i can only immage it reducing the off road capability as generally roll cages stiffen up the body work where it would normally flex, although toyota surf has a body mounted on a chassis so this rule probably doesnt apply here as the the reinforcement may not extend to the chassis!

If the cage doesn't extend to the chasis, it's a waste of time.

Chassis' don't flex that much, flexing is the suspension's job.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

what cages extend to the chassis? i know our trucks are different from cars, because with cars, the main body is effectively the chassis whilst our bodys can be removed from the chassis this cannot happen with cars.

chassis flex more than you think. when my truck is on 2 or 3 wheels you can hear the plastic panels in the back creaking.

i had a half roll cage in a race car and the amount of difference that made was immense. it was like a metal brick with an engine.

What's the point in a safety cage that's only bolted to a wee bit of thin metal?

It will probably have mounting points supplied with the kit Jess.
As Andy sys you want it braced off the chassis if possible.

It stops that wee thin bit of metal distorting in an accident and crushing the occupants. If you want to bolt it to the chassis it should go outside the body and then it protects the occupants and the vehicle.
