I,ve been chewing my fingernails waiting to see whether I would have to pay £400+ or £185

Why were you worrying, is this the first time your truck has needed road tax on it?
Have a look on the seatbelt label, it'll say what year your truck was built, if it was before march 31st 2001, you only need to pay the same as everyone else on this forum. Only an idiot would pay 400 quid p.a. for a low to mid-nineties Surf.

I suppose I was worried by the thread on here where the DVLA seem to take the date of import as date of manufacture and mine was imported in 2006.
I agree with you. much as I like my Surf I dont think its worth £400 road tax plus the same again in insurance,(6 points and fully comp) thats more than 2/3 of what I paid for it.
