    Fit a tranny cooler!!!!

Its the single best way to reduce the likelihood of potentially damaging coolant temperatures when operating the truck under extreme conditions. If you're not operating under extreme conditions, spend your money on servicing the cooling system so its working as Toyota designed it to, and spend the rest on beer.

Popeye just does all this stuff 'cos he can' and cos he likes shiny stuff.

    I HAVE

You make it sound like i stick all this useless shoit on for the hell of it, well your partly correct but the stuff does work and i do enjoy doing it,

    >I cant see much reason for cooling when the engine is stopped either. It doesn't get hotter when you stop, it just doesn't cool as quickly.<

How do ya account for the fans switching on several minuits after i've parked up? circulations stopped!! heat builds up etc, thats why i intend to wire the pump to the the system as well

thanks i will nod my head to you as i crack off my first beer/cider tonight
i have read and understood.fitting the cooler before the rad makes sense
would an oil cooler for the engine be taking the p*ss,
i can see why POPEYE needs all that extra cooling for his truck, that is a radiator i spy in the bottom corner of the pic?

I thought about an engine oil cooler but dont know how to fit it, where to tap in etc

Just get a sandwich plate to go on the oil filter mount. Oil filter goes onto that.

Dont blame me when you have to snap icicles off your engine to start it though

Re. cooling after the engine has stopped - explain where the new heat comes from when you stop combustion and I'll eat my hat for ya!

tis true ,i think because the water isnt circulating, ive had a couple of renaults, turn off walk away and the fans come on for maybe 30 secs, same thing with turbo timers

get ready to eat that hat andy.think about it logically.the stat is still open and the top of the cylinder block is still gonna be the hottest part of the engine, thats where combustion takes place, water is a good conductor of heat, thermosyphon takes place and as it enters the rad it passes the fan switch, hence why the fans come on.

Wasn't arguing about the continuing movement of heat to a different place, just the fact that the overall engine cannot get hotter after switch off. You stop adding heat, the engine cant get any hotter.

Thats wot i ment by "build up of heat" the engine cant produce more heat when the cylinders have stopped fireing but whats left is concentrated in the head/upper cooling system, as the pumps no longer running the temp in this area can increase/build up by enough deg's to start the fan, thats why i thought it a good idea to wire the electric pump to a CPC 80 DEG switch so it'll carry on circulating till the temp drops below that, when i fitted the pump it was sod all to do with help with cooling but just to get hot water to the back for heating the veg oil tank and exchangers etc, all pipework to the pump is lagged to stop it loseing heat till it's done it's job, then on it's return to the engine i ran it through a rad (with a fan) and 22mm copper to help it cool as much as poss,
i know all this is prob not nessiary on a well maintained system but WTF? why not if one wants to take the trouble, all this along with getting as much air flow through the engine bay has got to help,
i do think fitting the ATF cooler is a good idea tho but i think i should have done it the way Andy has, i think i'm over cooling it by just running through the cooler and not back via the rad, the cheapo temp gauges i fitted to this ATF system are f##kin useless and need replaceing with decent ones,

Engine oil cooler!! do ya mean it fits between the filter and block? like the gauge adaptors, if so it prob wont fit as the filter will foul the steering shaft, i try'd one of those adaptors, no good!
did'nt MattF look into this some time back?

On the 3.0 there's plenty of space above the filter so the sandwich plate one would fit. Haven't felt the need to do it though.

OK, I can clear this up.

NO, the engine/coolant does not get any hotter when switched off, and
YES the fan/s will be activated because the hot coolant will not be circulating around the engine any more and will rise up to the top of the engine where the thermo switch is. (on the 2.4 anyway)
                      All clear now?

Right then, put the kettle on, I fancy another mug of Yorkshire tea, it's very warm and sunny here at Bourton on-the-water.

Is that Bourton on -the-hot-water? has your fan come on?

Yes but I re-wrote it in a special way so that Andy and Ian could understand.
