  • Brand new 2LT engine?

    What do you think?

Worth getting instead of repairing mechanical fuel pump??

You could be the guinea pig and try it. I don't have any experience with Chinese engines, if this is one.

Bob I might be getting another 2.4 in a couple of weeks or so with a fairly new head etc fitted. If i get it then the complete engine will be about £600 plus delivery.I'll let you know if the guy decides to sell or not tho

It's something I've got to think about, whether to fix or replace, as the engine in mine is good, and had a new stevo head fitted 5000 miles ago....

I will have to speak to a diesel specialist near to me and look at the cost of getting the pump refurbed, and make some decisions after that.

I think if your looking at engines the you will be better off spending some dosh on getting the pump refurbed instead. That way you know you got a decent engine, head and fuel pump.Ask Pob what fuel pump he has got on his breaker as that may be a cheaper alternative

Richard, I do have a 2nd had pump, but I could spend time and money swapping it, only to find it leaks 6 months later, or worse, straight away...
              This is my dilema.
I could have the 2nd hand one refurbed before I change it,but if I'm gonna spend £3-400 on that, then I'd rather use my own pump, which I know to be good in all other respects, and sell the other one on.

Send the pump to diesel bobs for resealing ....it will get the Viton seals that are veg proof

How much work is there in changing a pump? A lot less than changing a complete engine I would have thought

I’m not even going to ask if you have been running your truck on cooking oil because everyone knows that I think it is false economy given the reliability & damage issues.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

Yes, that's an option, although I think the costs will be around £3-400 for a reseal, as they have to recallibrate and bench test it.

PDR, yes, veg oil did for my seals, and if the price hadn't rocketed, I would still be using my surf as a daily driver

The pump on the 2LT engine is a bugger to change (apparrently) something like 6-8 hours work, plus the cost of refurb.
Mark (surfenstein) has offered to help me change the pump,( which is a very generous offer) but he lives 300 miles from me, and I really don't know how good the 2nd hand pump I have actually is.

If it was a 2LTE, then a new pump is about £300, a new one for mine is £2500!!!!

I've been looking through the Haynes manual, and changing the pump may be fiesable for me to do, but I'll have to do a little more research into the refurb side of things, maybe I'll call Deisel Bob and talk to him about it.

that loom is not going to fit your surf and there is an electronic turbo boost sensor on that engine which needs an ecu to back it up i would leave well alone

I did wonder as the fuel pump looks very much like the 2LTE pump, rather than the 2LT.
