[QUOTE=Apache;560556]OK then. Lets close our borders. Lets stop 'Johnny Foreigner' coming in and 'taking British Jobs'.
Right. Who are we going to get to do the low paid work in the UK? Who's gonna pick the fruit, clean the hotel rooms etc. Right you scrounging benefits tw@ts, its you!

Hey I just had a really good idea....... why dont we put the minimum wage up to a rate that people could actually live on and then, we would'nt have to employ 'foreign workers' .

If the foreign workers can survive in this country on a basic minimum wage, does that not begin to show what the problem may be with our own? They expect and want too much is the simple answer.

A couple of things though Matt, dont you think that the people who run businesses are actually overpaid, for example Willie Walsh, BA director, currently earning 60K a month ! Some of the senior banking staff recently made redundant walked off with, in some cases, millions in pay off's and pensions, which, ultimately you, I and everyone else pays for !
Also, of the ten poles at our place, 8 share a bedsit, sleeping in shifts, I dont think thats a great set up but it is their choice. The true root of this problem lies in the countries that these economic migrants originate from. Surely it would better if Europe or the world helped them so these people didnt feel the need to migrate for better paid work.
I also think that the word you used, "survive", is an interesting one, people dont want to "survive" surely ? They want to prosper, being held back by low wages does not do alot for a person's sense of self worth.

Hmmmm! Seems I am one of the long term unemployed as I have been unable to obtain work for the past 8 months since being made redundant due to the company going into administration. I paid my NI so why shouldn't I claim? Some of us have no choice but to take whatever benefits are offfered just to survive. Maybe because I am close to 60 and have a medical issue employers do not want to know. Luckily today I managed to secure a 6 month temporary contract for work at very poor wages but at least it is an income.
I am a foreigner born in South Africa and descendent from British nationals and our ancestry can be traced back several geneations in Britain. Also a I am a married to a true taffy and was prior to emigrating to Britain. Am I regarded in the same category as a Polish person who is a basicaly an economic immigrant?Last edited by Surf01; 24 June 2009, 20:36.
