  • Where to find cheap write offs/ battered work horses

I'm thinking of getting a dirt cheap 4x4 as a spare for laning when mine is out of action and for family and friends to use if they want a play (All of them keep pestering me to drive the surf and I'm running out of excuses)
I'm thinking a Vitara, Jimny or Fourtrak (nice and forgiving, small and hard to get stuck) but really want to just spend a few hundred if I can.

As these are so cheap in half decent condition I would imagine they would be peanuts if they are knackered (i.e. dented to hell) as long as any damage is only cosmetic and not an MOT failure I really dont mind as it'll probably get dented anyway but everything on the bay and autotrader and everywhere else is in half decent nick.
Occasionally see bits on forums but even then not that often.

Guessing I'm missing a trick as to where to find the insurance write offs or real cheapies. Any ideas?

Either via a scrappy...or do a little phoning round to some of the dealers to see if they have anything coming in that they just want to get shot of.

Alternatively www.gumtree.com always has a few.

Especially in the London section...look for cars under 500 quid.....there are always a few if you are quick (and savvy).

Twas only an idea, looking at the prices the knackered dented and terminal ones are selling for, it looks like a good bargain, could be wrong, i usually am.
