  • de-chrome question

I am aware that some of you have de-chromed your surfs, in as far as painted the bumpers.
As I've just fitted a black winch bumper, I'm thinking this might be the way to go for the rear quarters and bumper.
What type of primer/ paint did you use? and how durable will the finish be.
I don't want to have to respray every time I go greenlaneing.

I think pretty much anything over chrome is gonna come off easily. Would be best to get the chrome off, back down to bare steel and start there.

As you say, not the best surface to paint over but, what about something like that surface prep/primer you can get for aluminium? That practically etches itself into the surface layer?

Hi Gordon, nice to see your well, If your interested i've got a complete rear bumper in grey with no rust on it, there is however one small easily repaired dent on the drivers side quarter.
As I'm fed up of moving it around my shed you can have it for a bargain price.
IT's not how you get in it . IT's how you get out.

Mine was media blasted, which found more holes than I'd started with. Then after the repairs had been made using fibreglass and filler, there really wasn't any chrome left.

Yes Gordon, It's standard grey as from the factory, It's not been filled or any repairs or paint done on it, and all the studs and threads are ok, there are no sheared bolts in them. I think there maybe the plastic cover aswell, if it's there you can have that with it.

sorry to be ignorant, I've never seen one before. Is it painted grey, whereby I can paint straight over the top??

If so how much do u want for it,? I'll come and collect from St.Helens
