I Know this sounds daft but is it stuck between High and Low, I dont mean the leaver in the cab but the connections to the box. I appologise if you have checked 100 times already but I had a "Durr" moment and thought it sounds like its stuck inbetween ratios. Probably not the best idea I,ve had.

ok ive been digging round bout autoboxes today for you,when u put it in any gear do u feel any clunk/hear one?or rev change?if so then belts are knackered in box,also i was told its nigh on impossible to put box on with out lining lugs up

well ive still had no luck with stein and the gearbox so im considering my options
1, stick with it and keep going untill its sorted
2, sell with gearbox problem and buy something else
3, put up for swaps offers in the hope that someone that can sort it will get it

i love the truck and everything thats been done to it , but i need something now that i can drive as i cant take using my escort work van anymore for personal use

your opinions etc are welcome

To be honest mate, I think you should sell it. If you really did love it, as you say you do, you wouldn't be asking the above questions.

the other box came from a triumph tr7 with a v8 fitted , i have got a company not far from here that said they will strip the original box and tell me whats wrong with it for free, then give me a price to fix it , do you think its worth taking it to them in the mean time etc

well to be honest if they are gonna strip it for free and let you know the cost of a repair.then yes i would,its propably something like brake bands worn and a seized or sticking valve body at my guessdo you have a spare torque convertor???,if so get them to look at that also,if its within your budget get them to repair it and i;ll come up and give you a hand to fit it all back together if you want.that would save a lot of messing about.
