  • Insurance Idea

After reading ( not for the first time ) problem’s with Surfs and insurance company’s especially what’s covered and what’s not ! - mods – windows, bars, stereos, and how they can get out of paying for bits and pieces etc etc etc how about this for an idea ?

We as a group contact one company and get put in place a special insurance premium just for us, with want we want on it to suit us all.

OK now your all thinking is this guy crazy ( maybe a little ) but im not sure how many owners there are or who would be interested but I bet a company with say 50 plus sets of new business would SIT UP AND LISTEN and give us a package that suits us, probable with some really good SAVINGS.

Just an idea worth thinking about maybe, not sure how it could happen or the logistics but it seemed a good idea at the time.

    PS

I think that we would have to become a club to gain any discounts.

Spot on Marky . I was going to keep out of this thread as I am involved with Motor Insurance as a vehicle assessor/engineer for Allianz Cornhill .
Cornhill will not insure any imports for a start .
You need a insurance company with a more 'open' underwritting group who are willing to underwrite the policies ie take the risk . Each vehicle spec , cc, location , driver , 2nd driver , ocuppation etc has to be considered so a group cover is a no no . As a Club you may approach a insurance company and propose a set discount for members , but that is poss all you can do .
I will not delve any further into this as I could fill up 1 page full of this c**p and not win any argumnets . Only basic facts thats all .
              MY OPINION ONLY .

                Bright Idea Next Stage

Ok sounds like a few like minded souls might be interested so over the next few days i will ring round a few company’s, run the idea past them, see if its feasible and find out any info from them i can.
If all goes well and anything positive comes of it i will post and let all know.

If anyone wants me to ask them anything specific, to check any ideas you may have or has any ideas let me know.

You'll have to declare to them that we are not a club. otherwise it will confuse the issue. just give them the facts, but be careful regarding mods etc as they may stop insuring the surf.

Ok will just play it tentatively and see how the grass lies, ask a few questions, see if they are interested, ask about CLUBS and ensure to mention we are not one, just see whats what in a inquisitive way .

I think the biggest wall you'll come up against, is the fear insurance companies have with small claims. If you mention to them about us being a large group who "sometimes go off-road", then the possibility of a number of small claims could increase, thereby upping the premiums. Like most insurance companies, if they can turn down a claim, they will. IMHO.

The UK Pajero Owners club have been trying to get an insurance deal for several years without any success and their club secretary is a professional insurance administrator for a large fleet.

Perhaps someone should ask him about his experiences?

Its a great idea and good luck with it, others have succeeded so its worth a go (pity we cant be part of it over here on the mainland ).

A group of enthusiasts with a large knowledge base regarding parts and problems, most of whom dont trust greasemonkeys to do the jobs right and do the maintenance themselves, who spend their evenings talking about them .... no way they'd be a far greater risk than a gaggle of teachers who know only that they have an Almera on the drive
