ok lets see if i understand this the car industry make cars but there isnt a market for them (unless all the cars on the planet disappear tonight)so the tax payer er sorry the government has to give the industry a boost £££££££ so that it can continue to make cars it cant sell wouldn't it be cheaper to pull the plug now rather than wast money and pull the plug in a year or so

Although a lot of our work comes via the car industry I have to agree with you. They have been massively overproducing for years and now were having to pay to keep them in their life style.

Still we've already done it for the bankers so why not send more money abroad.

          not many I guess....
Because why would you have the money to buy a new one all over sudden when u could not afford one before....
One day at the time I guess..

The idea is that you BORROW money to pay for the new car thus moving money round the system allowing the bankers (Oops - should have been a W) to have their bonuses again and shaft us all once more !

Life is too important to take seriously !

Oh and the part suppliers are screwed so tight they are lucky to make a profit from the manufactures

Parts suppliers will be looking at good times when all these 10 year old cars are taken off the road and crushed.. no second hand parts any more... (if the system actually worked...)

Not true..... there are some service parts we made a big loss on but most made more profit than part for new cars ...... anyway we are loosing our jobs cos the profit on New car parts is bad .......and our fate was anounced a year ago

i think its about time that the people of this country (not that it ll happen)told the government to fcuk off if we had business men running the country rather than sh1t for brains politicians then perhaps well get some were . the country/planet has been fcuked buy greed and we have all played our part god knows what we can do about it but giving money to industries that cant stand on there own two feet or banks that just take the pi55 isnt the way to go perhaps we should look after #1 sorry for the rant oh and neither of my cars are scrap and if the government think im going to do the banks or the car industries a good turn by scraping them and buying new ones then they are in for a long wait and another thing i keep my money under the bed well not actually under the bed but you know wot i mean and only (just) enough goes into the bank. fcuk the banks. i think thats it

The problem as I see it is that there are too many jobs at risk through indirect parts suppliers to risk losing a major car manufacturer.
You've got R and D work being done, different sciences and technology labs that are reliant on these industries, you wouldn't just lose a vehicle type, thousands would become unemployed overnight, so the cost to the country would probably be more than a scrappage scheme.

Personally, if someone is offering me £2000 for my ten year old cars, I'll be biting their hands off, after all there's no point saving it nowadays.

The losers will be the lower level car traders, who buy the non-retailable cars from main dealers and hence first time drivers who will find it harder to get their hands on a cheap car.
What have I told you about thinking Erroll
