There is nowt protecting the gearbox anyway. Do you mean the naff looking transfer box plate? I have built a beefier one but it still takes a hammering. The problem with them is the rear end has no mounting points so there is not much you can do easily.
My next plan is a rear IFS brace which will then give me something to attach a guard to that covers the gearbox and transfer box.
