The rear ones have a built in amp in both speakers. So unless ya planning to remove them it could be a tad fiddly with the wires.

cheers Rich but no need mate. ill check them myself in the morning if nobody has the answer on here tonight. just wanted to order some new ones now whilst im online thats all.
and thats ok magnum. im goona buy an amp to run both the fronts and rears off anyway so i dont mind re-wiring. just wasnt keene on cutting any plastic up.

rears were 6 inch i think, but not much aggro to fit 6x9,fitting the standard size imo is nuts,6x9s are much better, fronts are 4 inch, but u can get bigger in there but u need to be good with a dremmel, squeezed 6inch ones in my dash, then 2 amps,oh and 2 15 inch subs, some blue lights, jobs a good un

Mine are 4" front and 4.5" rear with built in amp. The rears are 2 Ohm. I also fitted tweeters in the rear top unit which were pre-wired. I also fitted 6x9`s in the rear stock locations after removing the amp boxes. I still have these with working speakers if anybody wants them for beer money.

and yes BDT ill go for 6x9's all day long but i cant say i payed much attention to what the soeakers were in the back. by that i mean round or overal.
i "think" you can get 6x9 speaker adaptors that fit onto most common round speakers. im pretty sure i did that once in my 3 series bmw? (memory like a fish lol)
cheers for the info guys. ill have a look tomorrow for myself insted of being so lazy and asking! lol
its been a while since ive made a sub box but it will be fun doing one again and felting it.

                        Just my opinion..........

The speakers in the rear of the surf were designed to go with the (ported) box they were installed in.

Personally I really have no need of speakers in the rear. If I wanted some sound from the original positions I'd keep the originals.

If you want to improve the sound in a 2nd gen surf then look into getting some decent sized speakers in the doors. This will need some fabricating / trimming etc.

Don't even bother messing with the standard front speaker locations.

                        Rob.

im going to replace the rears with 6x9's with new components in the fron with some additional tweeters on the dash. oh and a 12" sub in the back hehe.
im not gona go over the top but it will only need a tweek here and there on the amps and fader and should sound great.

That was my plan! do an install in the doors. Even got a set of door cards to do it too.

but the magnets on the speakers were f**king huuuuuge!!! An they would've stuck 7-8" out of the door to let the window go down! Total no go.

Ended up sticking with stock positions pretty much. the tweeters help level it out a bit

8" ? - Rod are you trying to put subs in your door ?

I've done exactly the same as you - bought spare cards to chop up. I'm fitting DLS R6A's which should need about 2.5" of spacing. They do a slimline version too.

Something cheap like the Infinity Reference components that are always going on ebay will fit easier as they are not very deep.
