Law on Bull Bars

Thinking of getting a full height Bull bar for my surf, at the moment i have an A bar which is a little tatty and wanted to know the law on these, meaning is it ilegal to have these fitted now or does the law only apply to newer 4x4's.

You can run one but you can't buy a new one now.
Will have to be bought second hand.

It's illegal for anyone to sell a new bullbar that isn't type approved unless it was already held in stock before the laws came in. Second hand is still fine, fitting one is still fine, making one yourself may now be a grey area.

Winch bumpers with headlight/grille protection bars seem to be covered slightly differently but not sure on the specifics.
