why is the type of transmission so important to the headline?
no idea mate
there was no reason for it to say 4x4
it just makes good headlines init so more read it only reason i can think of
if it did not say 4x4 in the title would you have read it?
or is this a hate campain against 4x4's
i know witch one i would pick
Could just as well have read "lorry crash", "bike crash", "car crash", etc, and "
Three arrested after girl dies in crash" isn't such a good headline, it needs a, whajumicallit, pronoun? Thus are the joys of language
Don't think there's any prejudice there, just giving slightly more than no details about what happened.
Don't think this was an attack against 4x4s. Going to stick my head over the parapet and say they were right to print that it was a 4x4 and name it as Jeep Cherokee. The police are still looking for whitnesses, so if as much detial is printed then it may jog a few more memories and bring forward more whitnesses. Not just to the incident but to the build up beforehand.

I beg to differ....I think it's part of the general press demonising of 4x4's. As if to prove the point here's yet another totally unecessary refference to the transmission type from todays news......
Neither of these stories are prejudicial, it's factual reporting. If you search through other regional newspaper sites, you'll find dozens of vehicular incident reports, all of them will report what was involved in the incident.
Whether-or-not you think it's prejudice will depend on the size of your shoulder chip.
