  • Had to dump my blanky

No not my comfort blanket before you ask I meant the blanket for the underside of the bonnet. It was falling apart and at risk of getting caught in something. Now my question is, would it be wise to put a new one back on? My concern is the heat from the engine going through the bonnet and damaging the beautiful burgundy paint. So your thoughts please

It's mostly for sound I think, but must have something to do with heat.

Like BDT says, let it burn, one less panel to strip before you paint it a proper colour.

I'm not concerned about it damaging the engine, just the paintwork. Planning to cut a few holes in the bonnet at some point so may see about fitting one then.

It won't make the slightest bit of difference if you take it out mate.

But if your truck dies please don't blame me.
If its not broke don't fix it.

is there more heat given off by the efi 2.4's or something, coz since i've been a surfer, everyone's made the point about overheating bonnets coz the heat given off by the engines but i haven't noticed anything out the ordinary on the surfs we've had. they've all been the old mechanical fuel pump ones though.
or is everyone exaggerating a wee bit.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

Mines been off for about three years now, with no obvious signs of damage.
                            Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

you could replace it with those self adhesive bitumin backed aluminium sheets used by car hi-fi fans. won't fall off - reflect heat and sound proofing all in one!!
                              Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!
