  • Snow shifting rant

When I were a lad, 50+ years ago, my dad was out of
work due to the bad weather, (he was a builder, and you
can't build in the snow). So he went to sign on, and was
told to go to Leeds City Council to work as a snow shifter,
or no benifits. What's wrong with that today? there are too
many bone-idle gits sitting at home doing nowt for their dole.
I think they should be made to work if fit, like he was.
    medical cert req'd if not.

    Any thoughts???

    Gman
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

The fact you started the post with..

    "when i were a lad"

Things change mate, In the world of computers an decent central heating most people not just chavs etc find themselves in a state of 'cantbear$edness'.

Plus, Theres no point in setting up a system to drag people on benefits who possibly shouldn't be on benefits to help clear the snow all of the 3 days we get it... every 10 years!

Think thats whats starting to happen now mate.

If the lazy gits are fit to work then they have to get a job within a certain time or the benifits stop.

      TOO FRIGIN RIGHT.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Isn't that already a current thing?!

I thought it was a case of unless you had to stay at home eg: look after kids and disabilitys etc.

Then you had to prove you were applying for jobs?!

Either way, More people will probably start signing on drawing more attention to anyone 'taking the mick'.

mate the prove your looking for work thing at the moment consists of telling them you've taken three actions a week/fortnight (can't remember which) can be anything from cold calling a company to ask if they got any jobs, to reading the jobs section in a local paper, to sending your CV to a company in canada, it's a joke. If your fit and healthy and struggling for work the councils have got a ton of work you could do to earn your benefits, from landscaping to white lining, or decorating council houses or offices or whatever even if it doesn't necessarily need doing desperately why not get them doing it for the sake of something to do, and so they have actually got to do something for their money.

My mate lives in Spain and said the social claimers there have to do 'community work' like clearing up the litter / weeding in parks etc or they don't get benefits.

That's the problem - there's probably more of these people than there is 'normal working people' so when it comes to vote time they decide where the taxpayers money is going to go rather than the poor buggers paying the tax. I reckon only people in work and those retired from work should have a vote. If you don't put into the pot then why should you have a say in how that pots spent ?
