called up the local hospital and got the number of Surrey Ambulance service early afternoon and asked if the truck could be any help and they jumped at it. They only have a couple of 4x4's and all the other (16) ambulances were either out and stuck or grounded. Staff couldn't get in to work etc. etc.
Ended up ferrying one gorgeous trainee paramedic around with some emergency kit and picking up another one to take to work. Took about 3 hours to do a 4 min journey despite being..... creative with our routes (well they were emergency service)
amazing how many dingbat drivers there were out. Beemers all over the place wondering why they cant go in a straight line, saw 4 ###### SMART cars, abandoned cars everywhere and plenty of posh 4x4s being slid around in 2wd. Pulled one guy out of a ditch who had come from clapham in a focus with slick tyres and was trying to get to West Sussex!
The Surf (in 4wd on the road for the first time which felt wrong! kep panicking and taking it off whenever I could see a hint of tarmac through the snow) took everything in its stride from icy hills to 4ft snow drifts without a problem. Very impressed with it even though muds are not the best for snow due to tread and width but it coped admirably!
I think surrey could do with some help tomorrow as could all lovcal ambulance units. I know 4x4 response units often cover this but Surreys isnt active yet. If you want to stick your name down for call out at Surrey call 07768480135 speak to Russel.
If you want to offer in your area google your local hospital and ask them I guess.
and the gorgeous paramedic? Married dammit!! Quite fancied finding out how good she was at the kiss of life
