  • Wireless Network Probs????

Any computer literate peeps out there help?
My brother in laws laptop wont connect to his wireless router (despite the other pc's in the house being able to)
So took my boys laptop round there and it connected no problem.
Brought the problem laptop round to my house and it connects to my belkin no problem.

It is a "Rock Extreme Ti"..... Pentium 4. (built in wireless)
    Running XP Home.
    The router is "sky broadband"

When trying to connect we can see the machine 'trying' to obtain "IP address
When it gets one it then disconnects and tries again, (an endless cycle of connecting and disconnecting about every 10 seconds)

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers
    Alan

Does it have Norton on it? If so, uninstall it and all may well be OK from then on.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Turn it off and see if that does it.

i agree change the fire wall settings first. If you are still having problems call Sky.

Tried running it with no av/firewall.
I'm back at my sisters house, on a pc 3 feet away from the laptop!
This pc has no problem connecting to the wireless router.
On the laptop, i've checked all the settings are the same, but when you try to connect there are just Zero's in the Details section.
(to the left of the window when in "Network connections")
so if i try to connect manually or auto, i get that continual cycle of

            "aquiring network address"
            the pane shows

            IP address 0.0.0.0
            Subnet mask 0.0.0.0
            Assigned by DHCP

All the info is the same on this pc EXCEPT
            IP address 198.162.0.2
            Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

And i cant find a way to change the IP addy and subnet mask manually to match!!!!

                SORTED!!

Thanks for all the help guys. Went on computeractive site, found forum, typed IP ADDRESS into the search engine and the second answer had exactly the same problem. Turns out it's down to Service Pack 3,
Uninstalled it and the damned thing worked straight away!!
