      Yeah, all relatively straighforward.

Fog light 10 minutes assuming its only busted / knocked off and the wiring is intact.

Stud depends on how hard it is to get out but shouldn't be too bad with the right kit.

CV boots - give yourself an hour a side, and only the outer ones are MOT failures by the way.

Rear wheel stud is pretty simple i think..

However if the fronts being stripped for the cv gaiters then its not much heartache to change a stud...

just take the rear drum off and beat the broken stud out and put in the new one easy as that

cheers for the support guys. just brought her home.

i said i'll look at the fog light myself. reckon its either the bulb, or something got tugged during the bodylift and needs re-attaching.

they've been really busy so unable to give an exact quote on the job, but they reckon it'll only take a couple of hours for them to do the lot, so about £90 job. I said i'd get the part if i can as she was talking about ordering things from Toyota

anywho, gonna research the parts and get them ordered now. I think £90 is worth the hassle of me trying to figure it all out myself. i'm too busy to do it and the MOT is kinda due if you know what i mean!

            cheers,

            Martin

£90 not bad at all if they're doing the boots on both driveshafts. I'd take that option as it's too bl00dy cold to be fiddling about under the truck!

Just picked the truck up with a full MOT on her now!

Apparantly it was an absolute pig to get the driveshafts out, so it took a full 2 hours for the whole job.

So including the £23 i paid for parts its cost £160 to get it through this years MOT. Thats about what i'd expected to be honest.

PS. turns out the fog light was fine, they were uust trying to turn it on with the wrong switch!!

                  Glad it's all sorted.

How did the wheel stud break, was it already broken or was it broken while the nut was being torqued up?

Seems that this is becoming a common problem, is it due to fatigue or are the nuts being over torqued by tyre monkeys with their air powered tools? I've never had a stud break on any vehicle I've owned but that may be because I tighten all my own wheel nuts even after I've had a tyre changed.

                  Just wondering.

Sorry mate but thats a ###### ridiculous price to pay for the work done. Garages nowadays seem to have no decent mechanics working in them. I am not a mechanic and I can change a cv boot (both boots) in around 20 minutes. I know why they struggled as they couldn't get the the driveshaft clear of the driveflange studs. A wee tip for the future, knock one of the flange studs out (it is splined at the base to grip flange) with a few sharp knocks (make sure to use the nut to protect the threads) and the shaft simply falls out. The stud gets replaced after changing cv boots and refitting shaft, the tightening of the flange nut will re-seat the stub.

I had a stud break at the tyre fitters, but he was loosening it at the time......go figure...

No it not, the inners are a warning and the outers are a fail I had this on my truck and also a car. (but not a good thing not to sort),

my point exactly, i did not have 4 hours spare. plus my knee went tits up on saturday again, so wouldn't have been able to do it if i'd wanted to. thank god i'm having keyhole surgeory on it on thrusday!

this forum is a godshend for useful info, but i do appreciate that the spanner monkeys won't know every time saving trick on every type of car their is. perhaps a specialist or toyota dealer might have more chance, but they'd charge 3 times as much anyway.

                              cheers,
