How Much Is This Going To Cost?

After my little slide on black ice, a week or so ago, I've replaced a couple of damaged parts on the car.

The osf indicator and the osf headlamp lens have cost £25 so far .

I haven't taken it to the body shop yet as I'm a little skint at this time of year, especially as I had to fork out £500 for the Rover that I slid into!

I've posted a few pictures of the damage, mainly a dent / kink at the corner of the bonnet, a dent on the wing just back from the side indicator and the bumper has been pushed back about 10mm. There's also a scuff on the bumper, which isn't too bad, but will no doubt need spraying.

So gentlemen, let's have a little game at guessing the estimate for repairing the damage.

I can't mate. I'm one of those sad people who hate to drive around with dents / sratches etc on my car!

A grand you say, I take it that's a London price?

Remember I'm from 'oopt North'. Our prices aren't quite so high (or am I just trying to kid myself?)

I don't know. All I can tell you is that everytime a car has to go in to have a dent fixed I feel physically sick at how much they want. Certainly if you go to a BMW dealer, they will say you need a new wing, new bonnet and the whole bumper prepping and spraying. Call it £400 each for the first two and £200 for the bumper.

If you know, and trust, a local bodyshop they will pobaly get it looking decent for a couple of hundred.

I'd be inclined to leave it awhile .... winter's not over yet n ya have some clever silly sod do some damage to the said area .... n make em pay !!!

Im not sure what it would cost to be honest. What year is the car?

(edit: just seen in your profile its a 2001. Would a scrap yard have any decent panels? )

Parents signum had a fist sized dent in the wing..

bill was over £1000.

If your not happy with dents etc then be carful with the body shop you choose.

The paint on the signum is total utter sh!t!!

Might have been better off just claiming it all in the insurance mate.

It's a BMW, so the repair costs will be an arm, a leg, and 3 knackers !!!!

depends how perfect u want it tbh,walk in to a decent body shop,it will be a grand or over,if it was mine id figure out how to remove bumper skin and have a look,may be a bracket you can straighten,but my money would be on the main bumper bar being bent,but you could may be straighten that***********but if thats the case disconnect battery,and dont touch it for 4 hours,as your airbags will start going off when u tug at it(ie surf with a strop)********** then i'd just keep hunting ebay/breakers for panels,or ask around you will eventually find a mate of mate who works at a bodyshop

The thing is the wing isn't creased or scratched, it's slightly pushed in. The bumper may be the big concern as BDT2 says. My mate reckons there's a crumple panel behind the bumper which is designed to take any little bumps without causing major damage to the wing and bumper etc.

No doubt if this needs a pull to straighten it the cost will shoot up. In retrospect I made a major error in not letting my insurance company deal with it. Still you live and learn eh? It's not the end of the world, just a bit of a pi**er.

BMW repair

EuroCarSpares are pretty reasonable on spares. The damage doesn't look too bad. A decent panel man would get that looking pretty sharp in about 4 hours then its just fill and finish before prime and paint. Most of the bonnet and wing will need paint along with the complete bumper. All three items will need laquering. I say that as most modern vehicles are base and clear-coat now even if not metallic finish. Sorry about the length of reply, used to do body repairs yonks ago. Good luck with it. Know any friendly delivery drivers? Get them to knock it and claim of a company policy. Did I say that?

I reakon we got off lightly as I was towing our twin axle caravan when I hit black ice. The Surf and the caravan were all over the road, but luckily there was no oncoming traffic. Creamed my rods I did!
