Hi all my names richard from kent

i didnt go out my way to buy a surf,it came in as a trade in at work,as i was looking for a bigger car to cart the dog and kid about in,the surf seemed perfect till some thing else came along. Now its here iam glad i brought it does everything i want and more.its a 96 3ltr diesel auto surf.Had it a few months now and my mate with his landrover been at me to take it off roading.which i done few days ago, very impressed.my mate thou it would get stuck very easy nope just kept going.only thing its got diff from a standard ones the tyres.iam not 100% on the 4wd system yet.i selected 4wd and diff lock at stand still been told to do at stand still and moving so not sure? also does the diff lock lock the diffs or centre diff?
ill put some pics up later.
Been looking through some pics, very nice chaps.some usful info gona take me an age to get throu lol.hope to take it more off road, not sure what mods to do yet as funds low with xmas so be in new year.

If its a 96 its probably a 3rd gen and if the rear door lifts up its definitely a 3rd gen. Selecting 4wd with the switch on the wee gearstick is 4wd centre diff open. Pulling the wee stick back is 4wd high with centre diff locked and fwd is 4wd low with the centre diff locked.
You should have a graphic on the dash with 4 green lights ( each wheel) when 4wd is engaged. An orange light for centre diff locked when you operate the stick. There was a universal truth that all third gens were like this but the only one in the world without a centre diff turned up here the other day. You can switch into 4wd at speeds up to 60kmh ( I think) and same for selecting 4wd H. Search for 4WD ,( on the forum) theres better info around

Hi richard, can i start by saying "good choice", you won't go wrong with a 3rd gen although you will get mocked by a few 2nd gen drivers on here. Happy motoring mate & if you ever get stuck with anything, there's never a shortage of info on the site, no matter how big or small there is always someone with the answer.

Welcome to the nuthouse ......Beware the squirrel

Check the glove box for curling tongs .......if you have them then it's a 3rd gen

                        welcome from another kentish surfer.

There's a few of us about down this way, but they all seem to have been a bit quiet lately. Where abouts in kent are you?
