Rotten luck with the weather then, still you can always go back in the summer if it's a nice place.

its a "parochial" mid western town,and they invited my wifes sister into their bosom as one of thier own (ie the last few babies born all had webbed fingers, and they were desperate for some new DNA)

as for being nice in the summer...........the town just a mile or so down the road was flattened by a tornado during one of their frequent thunderstorms.......not sure why were going to tell the truth !!!

No, you're thinking of either :-

a) ring vortex, which can have an effect on lift from rotor blades when close to the ground.

b) regarding the ice skater, centripetal force / gyroscopic precession - though precession will affect a helo too. It will have a better turn rate one way than the other, but rotor pitch is probably adjusted to compensate, as it is for advancing and retreating blades.

Just read up on coriolis 'effect', and am happy it has no real effect in aerodynamic terms. Seems for starters, it doesn't exist in a hovering situation. I think I may have misunderstood your email though, as I thought you were talking of a bending in the lift force plane.

Andy have you read the book APACHE by Ed Macy? I am a couple of chapters in but don't read very much. My boy read it and said he could'nt put it down.

morning andy......well we didnt crash and burn,and it took two days to get here though.it is ,with the wind chill,about -30 or so.we suddenly found ourselves, about 100 miles outside chicago,with no one else on the road,and no discernible road to follow,so seeing a sign for a hotel just stopped for the night.i just took my bro in law to work as his car is broken,and heard on the news its going to snow more tonight.
we didnt end up with a chevy though,but the trade off was not to bad. we have a toyota hgighlander (very similar to a brand new rav 4 or a nissan something or other) but its 4wd and has a 3.4 litre v6 (and yup i got it stuck ina 3 foot snow drift yesterday,only lots of throttle got it out....oh happy days !!

Hope it's not too old - one of my lads had a ride in one while he was on his work experience in June. He said it was rather fun travelling at 85mph in a 'kin girt big fire engine with the blues and twos on ........

well the fire service here is entirely staffed by volunteers.so far this year, they have had half the town flattened by a tornado and then flooded out after....i took my bro in law out to a small fire last night,but it was dealt with by the time we got ther.
