Had a drive around the garages today and the best deal i could get was a Peugeot 207 1.4HDi Urban 3 door in Indigo Blue, on an 06 plate, they originally wanted my car + £700 + admin charge and tax, came to £795, got them down to a straight swap in the end didn't even pay a security deposit, so well happy in the end, thanks for all the help and advice.

Bit late I know, but might be useful to someone:

Lets you search by tax bands, MPG, running costs and vice versa - search for the car and find the MPG/VED band.

Also late reply- but I recently bought a 2005 1.2L diesel Vauxhall Corsa with very rare automatic option. Doing okay at the moment 63,000 miles at around 70mpg on my daily work run. Road Tax is a mere 35 quid and I only fill up once every 3 weeks now!!!!

So let me get this right, you swapped a 2007 Astra 150bhp 1.9 Sri for a 2006 Peugeot 207 1.4Hdi?
          Hmmm.......

My thoughts exactly , high power diesels, and petrols for that matter, are worth jack sH!t these days so they have dropped in price, yet the low power eco ones, with low tax and consumption have not dropped in price, therefore the prices have caught up.

So for me to save in the long term a had to swap, the Astra cost me £11k this time last year and is worth half that now (it was worth it though, NICE car)

The wife does 30K miles a year @ 35 mpg, thats a lot of diesel, hopefully this new one will do 65 mpg (supposedly 76mpg) and only £35 tax per year.

The only other option was to get rid of the Surf and save on tax and insurance

Thats a good link, could have done with that before, I'll make a note of it, so if i can ever afford a new car i will know what to look for.
