I can see the point of a cheaper home made one. some of them do actually look ok.

An i spose it doesn't matter as much anymore but a homemade one is a surefire way to drop the value right out.

Like i said... guess it doesn't mean much anymore!

yes if ya going to make a snorkel
ya have to make sure its all air tight
its a but clenching moment when ya first try it out tho

I'd just have an engine bay filled with silicone!!

main thing is in the air fliter box right at the bottom there is a sump hole
if ya going to sink it over the bonnet or hit water too hard
the water gets up throw that hole
so ya must fill off that sump hole in the filter box
                        or its
if ya go too deep snorkel or not

If i was using the car for more genuine off roading, and that was its main purpose, i would be making the snorkel myself, factory fit ones seem more suited to drivers wanting to look like they do the whole off road thing, just seems like factory fit ones are more of a asthetic solution as appose to the homemade more practical solution

by practical, i mean u can silicon it up to death, chase it as far up the pillar as u want, and save a shed load of money while doing so

I can't see the need for a snorkel on a Surf meself.
I you need drive through water thats door mirror height then it's a boat you need or a purpose built off-roader, not your daily driver.

i cant drag a bout around

anyhow cv boots fit perfect over drane pipe
                              no need for any sealent
just a bit of foam filler for the hole in the filter box
and a few around the bulkhead and floor
mirror deep is easy i just get 2 wet patches behind the front seats
but i think i know how that gets in too
the day will come when i will have to let the water in
coz it bobs about abit in deep water coz it lets non in
one day i will go too deep its going to happen
                              but iam dry till then
