Guy's, further to this post... http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=50574

Well i have gone down the road of many and fitted a new head. Got it from a place that was recommended to me and paid 360 quid delivered. I also paid a further 100 quid to have the valves etc swapped over. Nice price eh!!

Anyway, the fit went textbook with no probs at all. It even started up within 5 secs of the key. Did all the burping according to the post on here.
Now this is the problem, after a run the coolant has gone into the the tank leaving the level in the rad down below the fins and is not going back into the rad as it needs it.
I should say at this stage that i have put new stat and rad cap on.
So i have to siphon the coolant out of the bottle and put it back in the rad. This is what was happening before i did the head with one difference, i had to add more coolant but this time i dont.
Can someone help me on this cos i'm at my whits end.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh and by the way the head was cracked in 3 places.

Just a thought but is the vent pipe on the expansion tank ok/clear?

What happens if you suck the pipe from the rad cap to the expansion bottle? I was thinking that maybe the vaccuum from the rad trying to draw back coolant from the tank was causing the pipe to collapse, sealing itself.

I presume the pipe going into the bottle is actually reaching the coolant...

Why would it be the pump?

There's nowhere it could be drawing in air instead of coolant from the tank? That would tend to mean it would also pump out coolant, but I'm clutching at straws....

clutching at straws!!. Been doing that all day mate.
Was thinking pump cos if the pump aint working then wouldnt the pressure of hot water push coolant out but not pull it back??? oh!! i dont know mate where's the mechanics when ya need them. lol

I assume you are allowing it to cool down before checking?

Phil did you have both heaters on full and set to hot.
It may be that you still have air in the system as some people have had trouble getting all the air out.Have the front end facing up hill also if you can as this helps to get the air out

Is the radiator sound? No pinholes. As far as I am aware the only way it would not syphon back when cooling down is if there is air being sucked in somewhere.

The rad was new a year ago. Could the heater matrix be pulling air in but not leak???
