That sounds like someone who hasn't read Lord of the Rings. God, it's dull.

Only to the illiterate .........Tolkin wove alot of old english and Norse myths and Ledgens into it, and alot was written in the darkest decades of the 20th century . It's alot better than C s Lewis's bible bashing Narnia books.

Heathens. Those are both classics. If you want the perfect example of dull and unintelligble, The Silmarillion? is the one you want to read. Tolkien's son compiled that one from his late fathers notes, if I remember correctly. Made a right balls up of it. Even I gave up trying to decipher that one.

I honestly can't bear the prospect of trying again. Considered giving it another attempt a couple of times, but I always wuss out. That book is painful.

The first two are fine. By the end of the third one, I was a little bit lost about what was going on with God.

I wish it had been a little clearer on who were the goodies and the baddies too. I don't really do intellectual.

Personally i'm neither a beliver or non believer, depends what you mean by god, if you mean theres some guy up there looking out for our interests and judgeing us then no i dont think so, but if you mean our souls/spirits move onto a hight plain/understanding then maybe, i also think the church/religion has got nothing to do with god or a higher plain, they are human being who claim to speak for god and in whos name have carried out the worst atrositys (?) in this planets history, and it still going on, church goers and the clergy are the biggist hiprocrites going,whatever their proclaimed religion,
mate of mine who we used to go out drinking, clubing, (shagging) with became a jehova's witness and took on this holyier than thou attitude, stopped smoking but not drinking, (people tend to pick and choose the bit's of a particular religion that suites them,) when we questioned him in depth about it (in the pub) he gets irate and says $hit like "i should'nt even be assoiating with you", in other words he was stuck for answers, they take the bible as literal, completly blinkered obdience to it and will not even entertain the idea that it was writen hundreds of years after the "event" and therefore may not be absolutly a factual account of the "event" after all it was writen by humans who by their very nature alter/embelish storys handed down from generation to generation,

God made man???? prob man invented god to make him feel better when he became "aware" he recconised death and what it was and what it ment and wanted assurance that all the $hit and struggleing through life was'nt a complete bl00dy waste of time,

You notice the religious (apart from suiside bombers, and their f##kin nuts) aint lineing up to jump of beechy head and enter the hereafter, ho no, they bang on about it but they aint to keen to go,

I got it sussed 'bout religion, when asked in hospital I replied 'Church of Turkey'
they were foolish enough to ask what is C of T?.... so I told them "F*ck @rse & follow the band".........funny that they never asked again!
why does everyone have to have a religion?, if realy pushed I might say humanist, recent events on here with you lot offering help without reward sort of say it all for me.
out of interest, I dont share his views but a realy inspirational guy is Nick Vujicic, utube or google him, gave me a lump in the throat!
