Could be a shim, could be a cam bearing (remember the noise the old Pintos used to make?), my initial thoughts when I heard it were either an injector spring or pump spring. I've heard a similar noise on a smallish 2 stroke diesel and that's what it was (injector spring).

mitsy it wont be anything thats yr fault,not internal,my guess is injectors,but either way vince will get to the bottom of it im sure,but plz when u can afford it buy a cambelt kit

if it had spat a shim out it would still sound like it was running on three cylinders that is still running on all four.

Finally got home and listened. My verdict is............that's an odd noise.

Like many others have said, it doesn't sound like something internal, more like something loose banging around. Not sure why you would lose power though. Hmmmmmmmmm.
