Well the cylinder just turned up!! 9 am, thankyou milners!
Just off to take middle daughter to stage schoo(in the van) then back here, pick up car and get it to workshop, then off we go!

Well I'm now totally p***ed off.
Changed the master cylinder, bled everything several times (just to be sure)
Went for a test drive around the farm. Pedal felt great, truck stopped on a sixpence. So i got on with the rear window, found the broken cable, repaired it and now the window is fine.
Cleared up and cleaned up my mates workshop.
Drove home ( about 3 miles) by the time i got near my house the pedal didn't feel as good, so i gave it a couple of pumps. The brake light on the dash came on and the pedal went slowly to almost the floor. Now you can push it slowly all the way down everytime!
SO the master cylinder change seems to have been a waste of time!!!! (and £100)

What The F**k do i try next!!!!!

Cant see any signs of a leak mate!
Will have to take the wheels off again tomorow and double check!

Sunday afternoon, double checked all the bleeding! No air in system.
Clamped off all the hoses, tried the pedal! Still the same.

So, it would appear that, the new master cylinder from Milners is Fubared!
Spoke to them this morning and they are sending out a replacement ASAP
Will let you know if this cures the problem, once i've found time to fit the new one!!!!!!!

It's unlikely that an old M/C and a brand new one will exhibit exactly the same symptoms.

Have a mechanic look at it, if you've already had one look at it, sack him and go find one that knows what he's doing.

If you're not a mechanic, don't touch your brakes.

If there are no visable leaks, I would get them pressure bled before I started swapping parts out.

I'd be tempted to drop the fuel tank an check the lines behind there.


Vince has said on a few occasions that they seem to rot out there.

Whats the fluid level doing?!

If its going down an you need to top it up then its leaking..

If its not then, well then im outta my depth!

No i'm not a mechanic, Yes i do it myself, BUT for your info, i wouldn't dream of "touching my brakes" unless i had a pretty good idea of what to do and how to do it! or without the help and advice of professionals!
I've spoken to 3 mechanics about the symptoms and had a fourth help me clamp off the rubber lines, so yes, the chances are that BOTH the old and the brand new cylinders are "letting by" internally!


Rod, there are no signs of leakage anywhere mate, and i am not losing any fluid at all.

Whats the pedal like without the engine running?
If you turn off the engine, pump the pedal to evacuate the servo, does it go hard?

If it does stay hard, then start the engine whilst pressing the pedal....it should increase travel as the servo works.....its not unusual for a diesel engined vehicle pedal to continue to creep almost to the floor with engine running!

If the pedal is hard without servo assistance then I would say you dont have a problem, just over-servo-ed brakes
